Taking a trip away from the grove we drove to New Plymouth for a brief, wet and windy visit. Thanks to the weather we discovered Puke Ariki art centre and museum where we were enthralled by two wonderful exhibitions -  'Precious Cargo' contemporary Waka Huia (treasure boxes) and 'Another World  -  Portraits from Ohura' Photographic Exhibition and the informative short video featuring the conservation efforts to save the Kokako.

Back on the road we headed for the Kapiti Coast to visit Graeme Hitchcock, ex-neighbour, olive picker and creator of stunning glass and bronze sculptures. Graeme is busy preparing for NZ Sculpture on Shore in November.
